Created to be His Help Meet

I was created to be his.help meet

I was created to be his help meet.

Let that sink in for a moment. I was not created to be a great entrepreneur or the most amazing chef. I was not created to be an eloquent speaker or a talented musician. Although those things aren’t a bad thing to be, that is not what I was created to be.

I was created to be my husband’s help meet.

How do I know? God told me so. Genesis 2:18 says, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

For him.

I have been thinking a lot about this lately and asking myself the question, “Am I fulfilling my role as his help meet?” Am I really helping him?

I do the dishes, I cook meals, I teach our children, I iron his clothes, and the list goes on. But those are already my jobs. I wonder if I could take it a step further and help him with things that he is working on. So I sat down and numbered a paper from 1-5. I thought I will just think of 5 ways that I can be a better help meet to my husband. These are things beyond the daily chores that I do. You know how far I got? #1. That’s it. I could only think of one way to be a better help to my husband.

So I must be doing pretty good, right? If I can only think of one thing that I am not already doing? Ha, no! It means I better open up my eyes and look around! I better start talking to my husband and ask him what can I help him with.

So that is my challenge to you this weekend. Write out Genesis 2:18 in your notebook, then number the paper 1-5. Think of 5 ways you can help your husband and be a better help meet to him. If you can’t think of 5 ways than start observing and ask your husband what he would like help with.

And while you are at it, make your list of ways to pray for your husband, and ways to be a blessing to your husband.

  1. I’m sure you are a wonderful blessing to your husband, as I’m sure he is to you as well. It’s a privilege when we are in a relationship where we can serve each other. Blessings to your family!
