Date Night Movies You’ll Both Love

Date Night Movies You’ll Both Love

This post contains affiliate links. I only give my honest opinion.

Let me tell you a little story. Here in Inuvik we don’t have any movie theatres. Because of that, the big thing to do whenever we go down south is to watch a movie at a theatre.

So this particular time, Shane picked the movie. I got my extra large popcorn and root beer and made myself comfortable in the chair- well, as comfortable as you can be in a movie theatre chair.

A list of date night movies you will both love! @creatingkilter

I can never wait for the movie to start eating my popcorn. There are so many previews and I really love popcorn. I don’t know how anyone could wait.

Anyway, so I ate my fill of popcorn and literally slumped over and went to sleep. Shane still tells everyone how I fell asleep at the theatre 5 minutes into the movie.

Moral of the story: I had zero interest in that movie. Zero.

To be fair, Shane will watch a movie that I choose from time to time. Even if he has no interest in it he will watch it with me. Then, of course, there are nights we watch a movie that he likes.

But you know what’s awesome? When we can find a movie that we both love. When we can both be excited about watching it. When we can both keep interest through the whole movie.

Living in the Arctic we really don’t have many date night options. Actually…there are no date night things for us to do outside of the house other than go for a walk or drive.

So movie nights are our typical date nights. We’ve watched a lot of movies. So I want to share with you some movies that you will both love.

I can (almost) guarantee that you will both love these movies. A little bit of romance, a lot of comedy. A little bit of suspense, and great story lines.

Disclaimer: some of these movies do have some cursing. Use discretion. Better yet, use a TV G! VidAngel is also a great way to watch these movies with zero cursing.

Here are some date night movies you will both love!

Me Before You is a movie I put off watching for a while. I wasn’t convinced by the previews. But after my friend told me her and her husband both liked it Shane and I tried it out. To my surprise we both really enjoyed this movie!

Mastermind was a movie that we went into with the mindset of “we will see what happens.” We didn’t expect to finish the movie, really. But the more we watched the more we laughed. It was really good! We don’t remember any cursing- I apologize if there is one or two in there. There is one part in the beginning where Kristen Wiig takes her shirt off. Just skip it- you won’t miss anything important. And this was a true story which blew our minds!

Money Pit is another one I didn’t think I’d be interested in. But I love Tom Hanks (who doesn’t?) so I was happy to watch it. It is SO FUNNY. It’s just so funny. Go make a bowl of popcorn and watch it. Again- there is a little bit of cursing so use discretion.

Groundhog Day (Special 15th Anniversary Edition) is a classic. You can’t not like this movie. I don’t know how you cannot like this movie. If you haven’t watched it, definitely add it to your list.

Around The World In 80 Days” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>Around the World in 80 Days is one for the whole family but go ahead and use it as a date night movie. It has some romance and A LOT of humor. Shane and I laugh so hard every time we watch this movie.

    1. I will look for that one! I used to love Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez. Haven’t watched them in so long though! Thanks!

  1. Glad to connect with you through the Sitting Among Friends Linkup. Sounds like an interesting collection and the good thing’s I’ve never seen any of these. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Found you on Holley Gerth Link up! Loved the Movie “Me before You” although I cried at the end. What can I say, kids gave me hormonal weakness haha. One movie that me and my teen like to watch together is called “Just my Luck” some brief innuendo but mostly good. Reminds me that my luck is in my own grasp.

    1. I am not a crier when it comes to movies. Even the saddest movies I can usually fight the tears. But I will admit, I was really close to crying during Me Before You, too! I have heard of Just My Luck but never watched it. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look for it!

  3. Those are all fun and funny movies. We are huge movie fans and always looking for something we can enjoy together. Just this past weekend we watched The Founder– the story of the McDonald’s corp. That was very interesting.

    1. I took your suggestion and we watched The Founder last night. What a great movie! So interesting!

    1. Those are my two favorite movies of all time! Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t agree and that’s the only reason they didn’t make my list! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I have seen a few of these movies and they were funny. Mastermind–hilarious! Hard to believe it is true. I love funny movies. My husband and kids are the big movie people in our house. I usually do as you did–eat my fill of the popcorn and fall asleep. LOL! I tend to go for old movies. I love Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Court Jester. I like Sleepless in Seattle and The Notebook, too. Haven’t seen Me Before You. May check it out this weekend.

    1. I agree we couldn’t believe Mastermind was a true story! So funny! I watched the play of Arsenic and Old Lace and loved it! You will love Me Before You. I can almost guarantee it!

  5. You have some great ideas here. It’s so hard these days to find truly “good” movies. So thankful I can borrow from our library so atleast there is no cost to our date nights. Well other than the wine. 😉

  6. Thanks for the suggestions! I don’t recognize a couple of them, so I’ll have to look them up.
My husband and I enjoyed War Room, Courageous, Fireproof, and Amazing Grace. We also liked the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder.

    1. We love that old Willy Wonka, too! I really love those other movies you mentioned, too. I watched War Room without my husband when it first came out and I keep saying we should watch it together!

  7. Sandy – I am a movie fanatic – love going to the movies on date night when we can, but also do movies at home – the very first movie we ever watched was on our very first date when we were in High School – a movie called MASK with Cher in it about a boy with a degenerative disease… such good memories…have you seen that movie? loved your movie choices too, seen them all 🙂
I am so glad you could join the party last week at #TuneInThursday. I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get around to commenting on your post, I had a retreat I was speaking at this past weekend, and it put me behind a few days.

    1. I am surprised you’ve seen them all! I will look for Mask. Sounds like an interesting movie. Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Oh I appreciate this post! One of our favorite things to do is stay home and curl up to a good, wholesome movie. The problem is we sometimes spend too much time surfing just to find one we both want. Great ideas I’ll be using!

    1. I remember that happening to us all the time when we had netflix! So funny! Thanks for stopping by!
